larger leaves

Asked September 16, 2019, 1:16 PM EDT

Last year I pruned my peppermint and I found that when it grew back it did so with larger leaves. Since the leaves are the part that I eat, I want to always get large leaves. If I prune again, will this always happen? If not, how else can I get larger leaves?

Hi - In general, pruning will help to stimulate good new growth, but we cannot say that alone will always result in larger leaves. Other factors such as the amount of sunlight and soil moisture will also affect growth and leaf size. Mint plants typically benefit from being divided every few years to keep them healthy and vigorous. https://web.extension.illinois.edu/herbs/mint.cfm
