Wish to attract more butterflies to my garden

Asked September 14, 2019, 12:27 PM EDT

I have a small garden in Columbia, and I would like to plant what is best to attract butterflies. I do love bright colors, and plants could be perennial and/or annuals. Thank you.

Here is a good link and resources for attracting pollinators to your garden. https://extension.umd.edu/hgic/topics/how-attract-and-conserve-pollinators-and-natural-enemies-your-...
If you want butterflies to breed in your garden you have to choose the appropriate plants with some knowledge of butterflies common to your area, as well as provide caterpillar host and nectar plants. Here is some information on the butterflies of MD and host plants

Plants grow best in full sun - consider milkweed sp., aster, goldenrod, joe pye weed, and purple coneflower, etc.
