Writing on September 13. What is the current yellow pollen coming from? (on our driveway and deck).

Thank you for choosing Ask an Expert for help on the pollen question.

I have not found any reports of pollen or other allergens noticeably high over the last week in the Metro area. That said, there could be local groups of trees or shrubs dropping pollen near you. For example, crape myrtle and strawberry trees are blooming in parts of town. Also, some plants will flower out of season, after drought conditions persist over the summer. Check neighbor’s trees or nearby street trees for the culprit.

You might consider bringing samples to the Multnomah County Master Gardener office in Montgomery Park at 2701 NW Vaughn St., Suite 450, in Portland. (10:00 am to 2:00 pm, Monday to Friday) or call 503-445-4608.

this one will probably remain a mystery. Thank you for your thoughtful response.
