Fall webworm?

Asked September 11, 2019, 12:44 PM EDT

I found this single caterpillar on my hydrangea. It has some flesh-colored “growths” on its back. I cannot find any information on what those “growths” are. Would you be able to help identify both caterpillar and “growth”? Thank you.

This looks like a fall webworm. The photo showing the growths was out of focus. However, this looks like the webworm was parasitized possibly by a wasp. This is natural insect control. The webworm will die.

Sent you the wrong picture. Thanks for your response.

Yes, that is a fall webworm with natural parasitism at work.
