Pruning glads and Calla lilies

Asked September 9, 2019, 2:56 PM EDT

I live on the lower Eastern Shore (Berlin). I leave my glads and calla lilies in all winter. I'm trying to tidy up my gardens for winter. Is it too early to cut back the foliage on the glads and the calla lilies? Thank you for your help. L. Bassett

As long as the leaves are still green they are photosynthesizing and producing carbohydrates to keep the plants healthy and strong. You should wait until the foliage turns yellow and dies back or is killed by a frost before cutting them back.
