Monkey puzzle propagation

Asked September 8, 2019, 7:39 AM EDT

I have a monkey puzzle in my garden and recently it gave a dozen of shootings from the main trunk. Is there any chance of growing these shootings?

Thank you for writing. Since I am located in Canada i am not personally familiar with monkey puzzle trees. However, an internet search returned the following regarding vegetative propagation:

Only epicormic side-shoots should be used, normal side-shoots do not develop properly. An epicormic shoot is one that develops from a dormant bud on the main trunk of the tree.
You may want to try to root the watershoots from the tree sins part of the joy of gardening is experimentation. If you have the time and patience for this very slow growing tree, it might be fun.
