Lunar Meteorite?

Asked September 8, 2019, 12:05 AM EDT

Hey there!
My son found a large rock, much heavier than it looks. Everything I've read seems like it is a lunar meteorite. How do I identify correctly? I've uploaded a couple of photos as well!
Thanks so much!

Hi - Meteorites are tricky. It's always possible. The heavy weight for it's size also matches some volcanic rocks, like basalt, and ore minerals. It's a puzzle. I suggest taking it to a local geologist. Universities, colleges, state and federal administrations sometimes have geologists on staff. Good luck!
