Hi -- Cool-season ornamental grasses can be planted in the spring or fall; warm-season grasses should be planted only in the spring. This page from the Missouri Extension provides some helpful information on the growing conditions they require. Please be aware that some of the ornamental grasses mentioned on their page are invasive in Maryland (Maidengrass, Japanese blood grass) and we don't recommend them. Maryland has some nice native grasses -- switchgrass, little bluestem, Indiangrass, bottlebrush grass, etc. -- that make good choices in a garden.
