Converting grass to trees

Asked September 6, 2019, 1:53 PM EDT

I am planning on converting grass areas to trees. How deep do I go to test the soil and can I use your garden and grass guide to test the soil? Thank you.

Yes, you can use the MSU soil test to analyze the soil for growing trees.
Take your samples 7" deep for trees as opposed to 3" for grass.
The feeder roots of trees are in the top few inches of soil These roots absorb the water and nutrients for the trees. Deeper roots anchor the tree in place.
