My neighbor says that the weed I want to kill is Canadian Thistle. It's believed that deer droppings are it's source. The weed is in broad-leaf ground cover and grass. Question: How can I get rid of it WITHOUT killing the ground cover or grass? Pulling it up by the roots has not been effective.
If you do not want to use an herbicide, an option may be to cut the thistle at the base to exhaust the root system. This effort will have to be repeated. Do not let it set seed.
Another option is to paint the thistle with a paintbrush using a nonselective herbicide containing glyphosate. Do not let it touch the desirable plants as this kills everything. See more information http://extension.umd.edu/hgic/topics/canada-thistle
