unidentified wasp nest on our house

Asked September 3, 2019, 10:51 PM EDT

Hello. We noticed this nest on the side of our home. It is not near an entrance or a window that is often opened. Do you suggest any action we should take or is it best to leave it alone. Thank you very much for your time. Sandi Plymouth, MI

This is definitely a wasp's nest. It might be a bald faced hornet's nest, though I am not certain as the picture was taken from a distance (rightfully so).

If the wasps are not bothering you, I suggest leaving it alone until mid-November. By that time, most of the wasps should be out of the nest or dead. To be sure the wasps are out, spray a strong blast of water at the nest, from a distance, and determine if any wasps come out. If none emerge, It would be safe to remove the nest.
