Praying Mantis

Asked September 3, 2019, 10:01 AM EDT

This is a second e-mail with the same question. I think that I may have put an incorrect address in the first e-mail. The correct address is: Will a praying mantis eat or otherwise damage tomato, cucumber, pepper, bean, mint, oregano, sage, or strawberry plants? Please answer only once.

No, praying mantids are not damaging your crops or plants. They consume large amounts of insects like aphids, leafhoppers, mosquitoes, caterpillars and other soft-bodied insects when young. As adults they will eat larger insects, beetles, grasshoppers, crickets, and other pest insects.
