Spider ID

Asked September 2, 2019, 1:21 PM EDT

This spider lives in the interior of my driver's side mirror, and comes out in the evening to build beautiful webs. He's a little dusty from the road.

Relatedly, what happens to spiders like this one once winter arrives?

Hello. I'm glad you've turned to AaEx.

It appears to be an American house spider. Here is more information about them: https://www.insectidentification.org/insect-description.asp?identification=American-House-Spider

This spider will die but will create an egg sac before it does. I'm not sure if the egg sac will survive the cold of winter if your car is outside for long periods of time this winter. That's beyond the scope of our plant knowledge.
