Dirt mounds no entrance to be seen

Asked September 1, 2019, 1:23 PM EDT

I have small dirt mounds near the edge of my house, there does not appear to be an entrance just the dirt pilled up by the edge of the house. I spread the dirt out and put rocks there last week but the mounds are back and pilled around the dirt rocks. What could this be, I don't see any ants, flying insects, or wasps. I do have a lizard that lives in my courtyard so could it be this?

Thank you for your question. Since wildlife vary from region to region, we suggest you contact your own county Extension office, where staff are more familiar with your local animals. Since mounds are often species-specific, I suggest you photograph a ‘new’ one, before moving the dirt. Here is the webpage for your county office: https://extension.arizona.edu/pima Good luck!
