Verticillium wilt resistance

Asked August 28, 2019, 6:17 PM EDT

We have some trees that we will be replacing due to verticillium wilt. We have seen web sites which list dogwood as resistant and some as sensitive. I concluded that it must be specific to the type of dogwood. I have read about a new variety called scarlet flame is resistant to “dogwood” diseases. I emailed Rutgers where it was developed but they didn’t respond. Do you have information or an opinion. Thanks.

Thank you for your question. The first—and still considered the best—list of susceptible and resistant species is this one: http://depts.washington.edu/hortlib/resources/ucdavis_verticillium.pdf All varieties of the cornus species are resistant. Resistance to other diseases is a plus. Good luck!
