Black fig production in sept.

Asked August 28, 2019, 1:54 PM EDT

Hi, I have a black fig tree-7 ft. tall. It is still producing baby figs. There are about 100 half grown ones. Should I pick the new baby figs? Will that direct growth to the older, bigger figs? Its Aug.29. Thanks in advance, Bob Abbott

Thank you for your question, Bob. All extension resources recommend leaving the figs on the tree to mature, but picking them exactly when ripe to prevent insects and diseases: https://mecklenburg.ces.ncsu.edu/wp-content/uploads/2012/11/fig-planting-and-growing-tips.pdf?fwd=no Some fruits can mature on the windowsill; others need to stay close to mama. Good luck!
