Japanese Beetle eaters

Asked August 27, 2019, 5:45 PM EDT

On Next Door, a local lady showed what she called a "spider" (doesn't look like a spider to me, but...) that eats Japenese Beetles. I would buy a million of these little guys if they truly do eat Japanese Beetles (because they have decimated our ivy.)

Hello there and thank you for your question,

It is true that spiders will eat JBs, however they have not been found to be an effective control of JBs. (Probably because most spiders are territorial and will eat other spiders in their territory.)

Dr. Whitney Cranshaw is currently doing some research on possible biological controls of JBs, but his study is still ongoing.

In the meantime, here is some information on JBs.

Sorry I couldn't be of more help.
