I would like to know what plant this might be and if it is a week or useful plant. I got it from a neighbor. Thanks.

This looks like Turtlehead, Chelone lyonii. It's a perennial that tolerates near full shade to part sun. It likes moist soils rich in organic material. It's good for erosion control and spreads by rhyzomes--underground roots. It's not considered to be invasive. It's deer resistant, and butterflies like it. Here's more information about it.
