American Elm - drops leaves early

Asked August 26, 2019, 2:31 PM EDT

Tree: American Elm, est. age not less than 90 yrs. Treated for Dutch Elm every three years since 2007 via injection and "vitamin" injection three years ago. Looks healthy in spring and early summer. Later summer (Earl/mid August), leaves turn brown with dark spots and fall, slow at first but accelerates by end of month. I don't remember this happening up to two years ago. Photos taken 8/24).

Elm leaf spot diseases are common but we can't identify what's specifically causing the spots by viewing the photos. Black spot disease is among the most common. In most cases spot diseases and the related early defoliation do not cause serious damage.
