Orange color substance in our back yard

Asked August 25, 2019, 1:54 PM EDT

We have noticed we are picking up an orange colored substance on our shoes from our back yard. We have also had trouble resolving an issue with the ph level in our pool. We have lived in this house since 2015 and this is the first time we have had either of these issues. Do you have any idea what this could be?

Likely what you are seeing is one of number of different rust diseases, a fungus and fairly common at this time of year, especially after a hot spell that stresses turf and slows growth. Generally rusts are cosmetic and not harmful to turf grass. Fertilization, water in some form and cooler weather usually lifts the turf out of it.

Can find no correlation between fungal rust and pool pH problems but does not mean there are none. Might be prudent to stay out of the lawn on the way to the pool
