Invasive locust tree

We are trying to get rid of a number of black locust trees on our property. It seems our efforts result in more trees. How can this species be successfully terminated?
That is a question many folks ask across the country.
Here is a fact/control sheet from California that is perhaps one of the best reviews of potential controls available. To eradicate black locust likely requires a chemical herbicide treatment. Typically this would involve cutting the tree an applying the herbicide to the stump (Garlon (tryclopyr) for example). You may want to consider a professional applicator/arborist for this work.
