On good pasture land, how many acres would it take to feed a cow for a year. I know it must vary tremendously, but I need only a ballpark number to use for comparison with the food requirements for some dinosaurs.

5-6 acres in eastern U.S.

Cattle consume about 2-2.5% of their body weight in dry matter every day

Easy math: 1000 pound cow consumes 2.5% of their body weight in dry matter per day....... 25 pounds of dry matter. If grass is 80% water/20% dry matter.....................(25 divide by .2) then consume 125 pounds of fresh grass per day.
