Perenial Weed Identification needed and how to eradicate it.

Asked August 16, 2019, 12:21 PM EDT

There is a weed on my back steep bank that showed up last year and is spreading aggressively. In 34 years here I've never seen this before. Features: gets to 5 feet tall; has broad leaves on thin, short branching on the top couple of feet of the stalk; no flowering; it spreads very aggressively by the roots; the 3/8" diam. stem looks hollow and has water in it; the roots have some red coloring near where they join the stem. I would be greatly appreciate hearing from you. This weed is in the neighborhood.

Hi,

If you could upload a photo that would be most helpful. This could be jewelweed: http://statebystategardening.com/state.php/mn/print/a_few_native_plants_that_we_call_weeds/

It does have small flowers, however. It can be very invasive.
