Japanese Lilac tree losing leaves

Asked August 15, 2019, 10:57 PM EDT

I have a 15-20 year old lilac tree that began losing it's leaves over the last couple of weeks. The leaves look normal. It has always been healthy, but didn't bloom this year. Should I be concerned about the leaf loss? Thanks Jeff

Hi, I see a little bit of spots on the leaves, but I don’t think that’s what’s causing the leaf drop. https://apps.extension.umn.edu/garden/diagnose/plant/deciduous/lilac/ Given that it didn’t bloom and you are having leaves dropping prematurely, I’d suggest you have an arborist come out and look at your tree. Here is a link to help with that: http://msa-live.org/certified-arborists

Thank you. I will do that.
