My 4 year old, 4' tall and wide lemony lace elderberry was in perfect condition on July 18. In the last 2 weeks, whole branches of leaves are turning brown and falling off. Half the bush has been affected and the other half is starting to look bad. I thought Virticillium Wilt, but there are no black rings on the stem or streaks on the bark when peeled. There are 1/16" brown lumps along the stem - spaced out, not bunched together. Scale? Treatment? Will it kill the bush? Should it be cut back?
