Are there any trees that will grow year round in MI in whiskey barrel containers?

Attached is an article about growing trees in containers which provides care and maintenance instructions as well as recommendations for trees.

Thank you for the suggestions -- I greatly appreciate it -- just want to be sure that the suggested trees will survive outside in Michigan winters --

Thanks

Plants in containers are more likely to survive a winter when protected properly. The article below gives a thorough description of protection for trees.

The protection is needed because the roots are exposed to freezing/thawing on all sides and there is danger the tree could be damaged if tipped or blown down.

The trees listed in the previous article are winter hardy, but will definitely need further protection when in containers.
