What type of groundcover should I use for a newly Seeded lawn?

Hello, I have a 13,000 square-foot plot that was killed with round up and I am preparing to re-seed. What could I use for a cover to keep the seed moist. I considered using hay but didn’t want the weeds and paper pellets would run about $500 is there anything more economical I could use?

Don't use hay but you can use straw. Hay has seedheads and is used as animal feed. Straw is just the stalks of wheat (most often) and has a lower seed content. It is the most economical way to go.
