Cactus turning color

Asked August 13, 2019, 3:40 PM EDT

Hello! I have had these cacti for a few years now, but for some reason one of them isn’t looking so great. The center of the “arm” has turned purple and the bottom is discolored. Does anyone know why? Or what I can do to help it? I grow quite a few cactus and succulents and I hate to lose one!!

Hello,
The reddish color could be possibly a moisture issue either too much or too little. Also it could be nutrient deficiency.. If they are turning red and are beginning to shrivel, this may be water related. Water thoroughly, but do not let the plant sit in water. Drain out any excess water. If you think the red is because of a lack of nutrients, fertilize using a a cacti or succulent type fertilizer. The leaves should turn green again if nutrients were lacking.
Hope this helps!
