Cucumber beetles and flea beetles

Asked August 12, 2019, 10:32 PM EDT

I have seen a damaging influx of cucumber and flea beetles this year in my vegetable garden. I’ve been spraying with soapy water which is helping but not completely. Is there anything else I can do to minimize and help prevent the continuation next year?

Thank you for your question. I wonder if you could confirm that you have the beetle described here, which is typically not in vegetable gardens: http://oregonstate.edu/dept/nurspest/western_spotted_cucumber_beetle.htm Flea beetles are more common, and here is an OSU Extension article with organic solutions: https://catalog.extension.oregonstate.edu/pnw640 Hope this is helpful.

I have both the flea beetles and the spotted cucumber beetle but mostly the striped version as seen in the attached picture.

Thank you for the photo. There aren’t many controls for either the spotted or striped species, but here are some suggestions: https://extension.oregonstate.edu/news/fight-bugs-garden-ipm Good luck!
