Dahlia not bloom

Asked August 12, 2019, 8:57 PM EDT

I have a Dahlia, 3 years old. First bloom looks great. Second bloom turns brown and withers. Leaves look OK. I water regularly. Any thoughts why second bloom dies? Photo shows withered bud and magenta first flower bloom in the background.

Dahlia problems are commonly overwatering or growing in locations with poor drainage. Are you overhead watering the plants, getting buds and flowers wet? Is the soil saturated? Another clue is to cut the damaged flower and look through it carefully. Signs of insects? Mold? Are the next buds looking healthy? Perhaps we can troubleshoot the issue further.
