Red Thread in grass

Our neighbor told us we have "Red Thread" in our grass. Is there a pet- safe way to manage this?

Red-thread is a fungi that attacks low fertility turfgrass. Apply some fertilizer with nitrogen at a rate of 1 lbs N per 1,000 sq ft. To stop the pathogen from returning make regular fertilizer applications 4 to 6 times a year at 1 lb N per 1,000 sq ft, totaling 4 to 6 lbs of N per 1,000 sq ft annually.
