Moving leaf cutter bees

Asked August 10, 2019, 9:41 AM EDT

I have a nest of leaf cutter bees in the space next to a vent on my house. Would you have any suggestion regarding a safe way to get them to move to a new location? I'm in the Denver area of Colorado. I attached a picture of the hole, I need to paint the house and would like to seal that space, but, don't want to harm the bees. Thanks for your help, Art

If they are nesting in the siding, it may mean that the wood is defective and needs replacing. They won't nest in sound wood. See http://extension.colostate.edu/topic-areas/insects/leafcutter-bees-5-576/.

I'm not sure how well they would survive the removal/replacement process, so there may not be an easy fix for this situation.
