Bagworm infestation on a leyland cypress tree help

Asked August 7, 2019, 6:29 AM EDT

I'm trying to save my leyland cypress trees (6), only this one has a severe problem. I bought some Bonide Deadbug concentrate (listed to kill bagworms) and sprayed yesterday. My tree is approximately 30 feet tall so tough to reach, I believe I got most areas yesterday. Is there any other chemicals that I should be using or do you think a local tree expert could do anything different? Thanks, Ken

It would probably be a good idea to contact an arborist to treat the tree. There are a few reasons for this reply like the number of neighboring trees the bagworms could spread to. Also, they are pretty high up in the tree and thorough coverage is essential for control. The third reason is, bagworms love Leyland cypress trees. You should monitor these trees next year for bagworm activity. They start feeding about the end of May-early June. We think you purchased spinosad which works on bagworms but again the closeness of the other trees is concerning.
