abundance of male blossoms

Asked August 6, 2019, 6:27 PM EDT

My cucumbers and zucchini plants have an abundance of male blossoms and only one or two female blossoms. How can I get plants which have more female blossoms. I have had only 2 cucumbers from 3 plants with at least 50 male blossoms and those cucumbers were due to my pollinating the females.
Thank you.

There could be multiple explanations. Male blossoms are always earlier than female blossoms. It has been very hot, which can cause problems for female blossoms. We also had a late summer start which could delay development . It sounds like you may have pollination issues but you knew what to do about those. Make sure you are keeping them watered and fertilized as needed.
