Plant I.D.

Asked August 6, 2019, 4:58 PM EDT

The plant with the large leafs on attached photos came up in our flower garden several weeks ago. It is now about 2 1/2 feet high and grows rapidly. I was wondering if you could identify the plant.

Hi - This is either a Paulownia tree seedling or velvetleaf. If the leaves emerge opposite to each other along the branch, it is Paulownia.

If the leaves are alternate along the stem, it is velvetleaf.

Both are considered weeds. You can pull or dig out the plant by hand.

Thank you for the information. The plant was a Paulownia tree and I have already destroyed it. Your resource is very valuable and I appreciate the quick response.
