Scale on Oak leaves?

Asked August 6, 2019, 9:03 AM EDT

Good Morning. See attached pictures. This fuzzy scale seemed to be feeding on the leaf veins of a Pin Oak in Ellicott City. Just wondering if anyone can help identify. It was only present on lower watersprout growth.

These are a type of gall. Here are photos of it on the Maryland Biodiversity Projects: https://www.marylandbiodiversity.com/viewSpecies.php?species=17933

It's caused by a wasp and does not merit treatment.

Here's more about galls, which have many causes: https://extension.umd.edu/hgic/topics/shade-tree-galls
