Basil turning yellow
My basil plants were doing really well, but during the past couple of weeks the leaves have been turning yellow. I have been careful not to overwater them, and I wonder if there could be another cause for this, and if other gardeners in this area are having the same problem.
It's possible this is basil downy mildew. Take at look at this page about it: https://extension.umd.edu/ipm/commercial-greenhouse-production/downy-mildew-basil-and-coleus .
Thank you, Ellen. I suspect that it is downy mildew. I did an online search and found that Rutgers University has developed a type of Genovese basil that is strongly resistant to downy mildew. The seeds are available through Johnny's Selected Seeds:
and I am definitely purchasing them next spring!
