Basil turning yellow

Asked August 5, 2019, 7:49 PM EDT

My basil plants were doing really well, but during the past couple of weeks the leaves have been turning yellow. I have been careful not to overwater them, and I wonder if there could be another cause for this, and if other gardeners in this area are having the same problem.

Thank you, Ellen. I suspect that it is downy mildew. I did an online search and found that Rutgers University has developed a type of Genovese basil that is strongly resistant to downy mildew. The seeds are available through Johnny's Selected Seeds:

and I am definitely purchasing them next spring!

Best wishes,
