Mold on lettuce bed soil

Asked August 3, 2019, 1:56 PM EDT

First-timer planted lettuce variety seeds in a planter box under eaves, in good bagged soil. White mold on soil and lower leaves are dying. I know that I didn't thin them enough but have cut some leaves for salad. Can we continue to eat the leaves and fix this or is it all bad?

Thank you for your question. It would appear that you have watered the plants too much and/or had too little sun. But, to be on the safe side, I suggest you contact your own county Extension office for advice on food safety. Here is their webpage: https://extension.wsu.edu/lewis/contact/ Good luck!
