Trumpet vine removal

We have a large trumpet vine taking over a corner of our yard. What is the most effective method for removal?

Washtenaw County Michigan invasive vine

Hi. Whatever method you use is going to take diligence and persistence over more than one season. One method is to cut it off and dig up the roots but there will be some roots left behind that will sprout (personal experience here!). These will need to be dug up and removed as soon as they sprout. The other way is to cut the trunk and have a second person ready with a nonselective herbicide and paint it immediately on the fresh wound. This too needs to get to all the roots but some will still be alive-watch for new shoots-even several feet away from the main trunk and dig them up. Good luck.
