Garden plant

Asked July 31, 2019, 1:23 PM EDT

Can you identify this plant that has taken over a 2' x 2' area of the garden?. It has a single stalk and about 3' tall. Has some very small flowers or seed pods. Didn't know if it is a friend or foe. Thanks

This looks like three seeded mercury (Acalypha rhomboidea). https://www.marylandbiodiversity.com/viewSpecies.php?species=8063

It is a wildflower but most people consider it a weed. You can pull or dig them out before they disperse seeds.
