Preemergent control of Nimblewill (Muhlenbergia schreberi)

Asked July 31, 2019, 11:45 AM EDT

I have a problem controlling Nimblewill (Muhlenbergia schreberi). I understand that I can use post emergent control such as Roundup and Tenacity and also use manual and mechanical means of removal while it is actively growing. My question: Is there a pre-emergent product that can be applied in the spring to inhibit or prevent Nimblewill from germinating? thank you, mike

Nimblewill is a native perennial warm season grass. Roundup is a total vegetation killer, non selective and kills everything. This can be used in late summer to early fall and reseed following label directions. Tenacity is a selective herbicide.
There is no preemergent that will effectively control this grass as it is a perennial not an annual grass. Here is our website on nimblewill https://extension.umd.edu/hgic/topics/nimblewill
