Yellow nutsedge tends to show up in areas where there is consistently moist soil, so anything you can do to improve soil drainage will tend to help. Please see our webpage for information on how to manage nutsedge. Small areas of it can be dug out by hand. If you decide to use a chemical method to control it, you will have to use a product labeled specifically for nutsedge rather than for grassy weeds. https://extension.umd.edu/hgic/topics/yellow-nutsedge

You can spot-treat the nutsedge and overseed bare areas of the lawn in early fall.
