Old unused canning lids
We recently bought a house where a lot of things where left in storage sheds. I came upon a crate full of old unused canning lids. Maybe as old as 20 or 30 years old by the price tags on them. Is it safe to use these lids?
What a great find -- but it is not recommended to use old canning lids if they are many years old because they will not be safe. The gasket compound may have broken down and you will not be able to guarantee a safe seal.
