Self polination

Asked July 27, 2019, 7:00 PM EDT

I watched several methods of pollinating my plants either by brush or by removing the male petals and rub the inside to the inside of the female. No success. Now I get lots of very small blooms but no real fruit.
I now broke off all the nodes, small fruits and male flowers in hope to get less nodes but flowers that finally take.
We had lots of rain.
Do I need to cover the plants?
What else can I do?
