Insect identification

Asked July 25, 2019, 9:03 PM EDT

I’m looking for some help identifying this insect. It is black with a purplish color on it wings in the sunlight. It has a very vibrant red strip and is 1-2” in size. I was stung today and passed out from the pain for 10-15 seconds according to my partner as we are both landscapers. Any help would be great!

That is a mydas fly, Mydas clavatus (Mydidae).
