Are Humming Bird Feeders a Good Idea

The food in humming bird feeders is nothing but sugar and red die - no nutrients of any time. When we put a feeder out we have a bird who feeds 6 or 7 times a day. Is it good for the bird's health to ingest sugar with no nutrients?

Hummingbird feeders are a fine idea, especially if there are not a lot of flowers for them to nectar from.
