Caterpillar on Dill

Asked July 25, 2019, 9:47 AM EDT

Found these caterpillars on our dill plants and they seem to be enjoying it. Could you identify the Caterpillar and let me know if it's at all beneficial or a pest. If a pest, best recommendation for eradicating. Thank you

These are black swallowtail caterpillars. The butterflies are beneficial pollinators.
It is best to just let them do their thing... which is eat. Dill is one of their favorite foods so next season plant extra.
Once they fatten up they will crawl away and make their chrysalis and carry on their lifecycle.
