Help identifying tomato disease or insect

Asked July 24, 2019, 5:47 PM EDT

Hello, we have a home garden in grand forks and finally got some tomatoes but they appear to have some sort of disease or maybe being caused by insects. The plant / leaves seem to be ok. In doing research I thought maybe a bacterial canker, but not sure. I sure hope not though. Any help would be appreciated! Thank you.

It looks like feeding damage to me. The tomato has healed and there is not any blacked infected tissue around the area. Unfortunately it is hard to tell what is or was eating on them, so I can't suggest control methods. You can scout the plants and the area to see if you see any insects or slugs. You can also try to make a pit trap. Bury a plastic up in the soil and put a little bit of soapy water in the bottom and see if you collect anything.

Please let me know if you have any other questions.
