When is it too late to save a thirsty evergreen?

These trees look okay. They are shedding their lower and interior needles which is normal. As long as the ends of the branches remain green, I wouldn't worry. Landscape trees do benefit from supplemental watering in mid to late summer. Water infrequently, slowly, and deeply - a soaker hose circled around the dripline area, for example, left running for a couple of hours, once every week or so.
