We have had decent success controlling hare barley in pastures with the use of the herbicide Lambient. Multiple applications over several years will be needed to control the hare barley along with good pasture management practices (fertility, grazing, overseeding, etc.) Postemergence control is best in the late fall or early winter or very early in the spring and applications should be made when the hare barley is in the 2-4 leaf growth stage. Look for it to start emerging with the onset of the fall rains. We have found mowing, targeted grazing and burning to be ineffective for managing this winter annual grass weed.
